A mortgage broker can compare deals from some or many lenders, explain eligibility and handle much of the application, while applying directly means dealing with one lender and may give access to its own products. Brokers may charge a fee, receive commission, or both, so ask how they are paid and whether they search the whole market. Direct applications can suit borrowers who already know which lender and mortgage they want, but neither route guarantees acceptance or the lowest rate. Check that any broker is authorised by the FCA and compare the overall cost, not just the initial interest rate.
